The Lyrical Stylings of Phil Collins
I was listening to The Postal Service's cover of Against All Odds, and the chorus was remarkably relevant:
I went to the NSCS barbecue at Lakewood today, and in spite of dodgy weather and wicked case of no-Miyuki, I had fun. I had originally planned to drop off the soda I had said I'd bring and then take off, but I realized I'd rather stick around than volunteer the information that I'd been dumped yesterday to explain why I was fleeing. Ironically enough, Holly asked why my girlfriend wasn't there, and I volunteered that information without hesitation. Also ironic: Holly's birthday is the same as Miyuki's.
After burgers, dogs, chips, and chatting Holly, Chiho, and I went kayaking on the lake. It was Holly's and Chiho's first time. With my mind elsewhere, I repeatedly kept paddling without realizing how far ahead of them I was, and I kept repeatedly feeling assy for it.
Dead week, ahoy.
So take a look at me now, oh there’s just an empty space
And there’s nothing left here to remind me,
Just the memory of your face
Ooh take a look at me now, well there’s just an empty space
And you coming back to me is against all odds and that’s what I’ve got to face
